A COUPLE MORE SKETCHES

Yosemite Falls from Valley Chapel

Finishing a sketchbook is a really rewarding experience for me! - Just finished my 36 page Moleskin - with the two sketches below.... Will be purchasing another for my trip into the High Sierras in August.  - There is a real sense of accomplishment for any artist when you see a pile of finished work in front of you. My sketchbooks are dear to me and are like photo albums of my life.....

  1. All of them are lovely! I especially love Dusk at the beach's sky. Wow! The subtle orange color makes it.

  2. Hi Luisa. These paintings are fantastic! Great composition, great paint handling, beautiful color..

Since you have posted photos of your sketches and work in progress I was wondering if you would explain how you transfer your drawing to the watercolor paper. Do you rub something like graphite on the back and trace over the sketch?

    1. Hi - thanks 4 commenting! - I work in different ways - the line sketch is only a guide. I will faintly mark out a few lines on the watercolor paper and then apply paint, do as you mentioned or use a lightbox. The sketches are a way to work out how to simplify my painting! I am always trying to cut out details and let the paint speak....

    2. Thank you for the helpful info. That's a good point about simplifying. I tend to overwork things and that gets frustrating. You're pretty good with that masking fluid too. I'm guessing that's what you were using in the sky on your Street View painting. Anyway, really nice.

  3. Hello Luisa, I can't decide what I like best. This is one of my many favourites because it's an unusual view O:-)
